2 Commando Trial SmartGrip RIC19-Nov-2013
2 COMMANDO CONFIRM SIGNIFICANT CAPABILITY BENEFIT FROM USING SMARTGRIP RIC
Kord Defence recently supported 2nd Commando Regiment in live firing trials of the SmartGrip RIC System at Holsworthy Barracks, Sydney. The short trial comprised a presentation on the system followed by familiarisation training by Kord Defence staff prior to dry and live firing practices in the Regiments’ SF Training Facility.
The RIC System had been configured to remotely control the weapon mounted ancillaries including night aiming devices and torches. It also controlled the press to talk function of their tactical communications.
The trial confirmed that there is a significant capability benefit to be gained in centralising ancillary control. All functions were controlled without removing hands from the weapon. The 2nd Commando Regt trial report stated that the RIC represents a definite capability enabler to future small arms ancillary employment.
Managing Director, Peter Moran, said that the Company was delighted with the trial outcomes and encouragement given by the professional soldiers of 2nd Commando Regiment and has every confidence that this will lead to further joint development of the capability for the ADF and international opportunities.
